Tigers' Cabrera, Greene to injured list; Greene expected to miss significant time

Miguel Cabrera hit the injured list with a right bicep strain; Riley Greene left Wednesday's game with a sprained left foot

Cabrera had just returned from the injured list prior to Thursday's game, while Greene was carted off the field and taken to the hospital

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers placed Miguel Cabrera on the 10-day injured list with a right biceps strain and Riley Greene on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left foot, the team announced Thursday. Cabrera was activated from the injured list on May 28 after missing 13 games with a left biceps strain. After the Tigers played the first game of their doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, manager A.J. Hinch said Cabrera felt discomfort in his right biceps and underwent an MRI, which revealed the new strain. "I think [Cabrera's injury] is a little bit more concerning," Hinch said. "He came in today not feeling real good."

Greene, 21, was carted off the field and taken to the hospital after he fouled a ball off his foot in the third inning of the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. The Tigers' top prospect underwent X-rays, which were negative, and an MRI, which revealed the sprain.

"It's unfortunate," Hinch said. "He's been playing so well for us."

Greene is hitting .298/.358/.479 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs in 42 games this season.

Cabrera, 39, is hitting .267/.346/.379 with two home runs and 24 RBIs in 48 games this season.
