Citizens put on a clinical display to end Real Madrid's hopes of defending their title

Report from the Champions League semi-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City have reached the Champions League final after a stunning 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden put the Citizens in control of the tie, before Rodri put the icing on the cake with a late strike.

The win sees Pep Guardiola's side reach their second Champions League final in three years and they will now face either Liverpool or Villarreal in the final in Paris on May 28.

Real Madrid, who were looking to win the competition for a record 14th time, were second best throughout and they were never able to recover from Mahrez's early opener.

The defeat brings an end to their hopes of defending their title and it is the first time that they have failed to reach the final since 2010.
